Autumn is around the corner?
It seems like summer just got started and already there are signs in the country side of autumn.
Crows are flocking up now that there young are flying. Ducks and geese are flying about, fattening themselves up in the fields before making the long flight south for the winter.
The flowers of canola are dropping and the once bright fields are now a dull green. Grain and barley is beginning to ripen off. The once green fields are slowly turning tan and then golden.
Mornings are a little cooler. A couple of days ago while I was out before sunrise the Rav thermometer read +4 Celsius.
Days are getting shorter. Sunrise is now just before six a.m. Sunset at nine thirty p.m. Contrast that with the sun rising at five a.m. and setting at ten thirty p.m.
Sound depressing? Not at all. Autumn is my favorite season. The weather can be fantastic. The sun stays lower to the horizon. The mosquitoes are gone. Yippee!
I still love summer but the signs are there.
Happy shooting,
Dan

Great you jinxed it.
Thanks Dan!

I’m with you, Dan … I love fall light! Just last night I was saying something about how the minute of daylight we lose each day is getting more and more noticeable now. The bugs are still just as bad, but the temps are better in the morning and there’s color in the landscape where there wasn’t any a few weeks ago. I have the urge (need, really) to get in the car and start scouting some new locations for the fall.
I love this photo! It has so many of the elements that I seem to seek. I especially like how it fades off into the distance. Having grown up on a farm I’ve witnessed so many sunrises like this. Makes me homesick … but in a good way!

My favorite season is always the one that’s just coming up.

As you’ve noted, the seasons leave signs ahead of them. Here in central Texas, even though every afternoon the temperature passes 100°F and we haven’t had any real rain for months, I’ve begun to see native plant species that I know are well on their way to flowering in the fall.

I can see why you love it so much and I fully agree. This image is so beautiful, so dreamy and peaceful.

[...] I normally welcome the change of the seasons but mid-August and the leaves are turning…that’s just way too early! I hope all you guys had a much better summer or are actually still in the midst of it as it should be. I know parts of Canada are in the same dismal situation we in the Northern party of Germany are in; as I heard autumn was approaching fast in Alberta at the beginning of August already. [...]

It’s hard to predict the fall with any accuracy but the nights are definitely cooler.
